Brussels, 15/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - At the European Summit on 15 March, heads of state and/or government discussed EU/Russia relations. Although the discussion was shorter than expected due to the debate on Syria, the European Council raised the need for the EU and its member states to have a very clear common position, and to act coherently in strategic relations with Moscow, for example in trade, energy, international relations (Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Syria, and others) or on human rights. Europe calls on Russia to make an effort on the last point. The EU also trusts that Russia will meet its obligations arising from accession to the World Trade Organisation. The president of the European Commission and nine commissioners are to be in Moscow on 21 and 22 March for a meeting with the Russian government. (CG/AN/transl.jl)
