Brussels, 15/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou will call on French ministers responsible for French universities to participate in the new university ranking, U-Multirank, which she presented on 17 December (see EUROPE 10754). Vassiliou will meet Bernard Cazeneuve (the French minister for European affairs), Geneviève Fioraso (the minister for higher education and research) and Valérie Fourneyron (the minister for youth and sport). Vassiliou will also congratulate the French authorities on CERES (Cartographie des établissements d'enseignement supérieur et de recherché) - an initiative led by French universities which maps the country's higher education system. In addition, Vassiliou will welcome France's support for the new “Erasmus for All” programme. At this stage, eight ministers for higher education have written to Vassiliou to express their preference for the “Erasmus for All” name, although the European Parliament prefers “YES Europe”. The eight ministers come from France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Luxembourg, Cyprus and Portugal. (IL/transl.fl)
