Memorandum of Understanding to be signed

Brussels 26/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) Staffan Nilsso, has been on a three-day working visit to Algeria since Monday, by invitation of his Algerian opposite number, Mohamed-Séghir Babes. The Economic and Social Committee (ESC) of Algeria is a stakeholder to the annual Euro-Mediterranean Social Summit under the aegis of the EESC. During his visit, Nilsson is to meet Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and various members of his government.

During these talks with the Algerian officials and with members of the ESC, it is expected that Euro-Algerian bilateral relations will be discussed, in particular between the two economic and social structures. The two committees will sign a Memorandum of Understanding. They are also expected to discuss Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in general and the role played by the ESCs in particular, notably through the promotion of civil society organisations. Nilsson and the delegation accompanying him will also meet NGOs, which are not represented by the members of the Algerian ESC. (FB/transl.fl)
