Brussels, 26/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 25 February, the Council endorsed the Commission's proposal to raise the rate of co-funding for “migration/asylum” projects for countries receiving financial assistance, such as Greece. This concerns the European Refugee Fund, the Return Fund, the Fund for the Integration of Third Country Nationals, and the External Borders Fund. Without adjustment of the amounts involved, the European share of co-funding is to increase by 20 percentage points, up to 70%. For the countries covered by the Cohesion Fund, the maximum rate would be increased to up to 95%. These proposals aim first and foremost to relieve those countries that have over-populated hosting centres and insufficient infrastructure. Currently, the following allocations have been earmarked for the four funds: €825 million (integration of nationals), €700 million (for the refugee fund), €1.820 (for the external borders fund), and €630 million (for the return fund) over the 2007-2013 period.
