Brussels, 26/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - There are no fewer than five directives that concern worker health and safety and that the European Commission suggested amending on Tuesday 26 February. The directives must be adapted to come into line with the 2008 rules on classification, labelling and packaging of chemical substances, some of which can be detrimental to worker health.
The manufacturers and suppliers of chemical blends and substances are required to adjust to those rules. New information on risk classification should thus be indicated on the labelling of certain products. Employers, for their part, should take this into account in order to adjust the rules applicable in consequence within the company, regarding exposure to such chemical products (protection equipment, ventilation etc.). The Commission's proposal has now been forwarded for approval to the European Parliament and EU Council. (JK/transl.jl)
