18/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - Council encourages greater coordination on the rule of law. Welcoming the publication of the Court of Auditors' report of 30 October 2012 on the EU's assistance to Kosovo with regard to the rule of law (see EUROPE 10721), the Council of Foreign Affairs encouraged the European Commission and External Action Service, on Monday 18 February, to strengthen their efforts in order to ensure the full coordination of their activities in this domain. In its conclusions, it welcomes the fact that they have already further highlighted comparative analysis in their activities and communication procedures, also with the aim of facilitating the allocation of resources. It underlines the importance of systematically assessing the impact of European aid. The ministers highlight that the effectiveness of EU actions cannot be measured only by quantitative means because it reflects the complex local and regional political environment. They add that great efforts are needed by all actors, including the EU and member states, and in particular the authorities of Kosovo, to consolidate the rule of law. (CG/transl.fl)
