15/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - Euro-Turkish cooperation on violence against women. On Thursday 14 February, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle and the Turkish minister for family and social policies, Fatma Sahin, decided to cooperate closely on the issue of violence against women, “notably through further targeted assistance projects in Turkey”, Füle said in a press release. Highlighting his “full support” for Sahin's reform efforts, Füle committed to increasing support for these efforts. He recalled that - apart from combating violence against women - access to employment, access to education and political representation are also very important aspects of enhancing women's rights in Turkey. Füle welcomed Sahin's initiatives, especially the adoption of the law in March 2012 on the protection of family and prevention of violence. (CG/transl.fl)
