Brussels, 28/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - Morocco has published a tender for the construction of the biggest solar-powered power station in North Africa, with investment of an estimated €1.5 billion.
The solar plant at Ouarzazate in southern Morocco is being supported financially the European Union. Under an agreement signed in November 2012, the European Investment Bank will be providing a loan of €300 million and other European agencies (together with the EIB) may provide half the total funding. Other agencies providing funding include the African Development Bank, KfW (Germany's development bank), Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the World Bank. The World Bank will provide up to USD 297 million. The project, Plan Solaire Méditerranéen (PSM), is one of the EU's six flagship programmes as part of the Union for the Mediterranean. (FB/transl.fl)
