28/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - EU to observe elections in March. In response to the invitation extended to it by the Kenyan authorities, the European Union is to observe the general elections to be held on 4 March in this Horn of Africa country. The electoral observation mission of the EU, which will be led by MEP Alojz Peterle (EPP, Slovenia), former prime minister and former foreign affairs minister of Slovenia, is currently being deployed. The 11 observers who make up the core team have been in Nairobi since 24 January, and will be reinforced by 16 long-term observers. 18 short-term observers will join them shortly before the elections begin, to lend a hand. Kenyans go to the polls to elect the President of the Republic, governors, senators, members of parliament, members of regional parliaments and youth and women's representatives. (AN/transl.fl)
