Brussels, 25/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - During a seminar organised at the European Parliament on 23 January, representatives from the tourism industry and European political players discussed the future European strategy for tourism - which aims to generate more competitiveness and sustainability for the sector in the future. Discussion focused particularly on the inclusion of the tourism sector in the 2014-2020 multiannual financial framework and on the opportunity to apply for more European funding in order to finance a really effective European tourism strategy. The tourism sector offers enormous potential which will enable great progress to be made in achieving the objectives of the EUROPE 2020 strategy, says the ERRIN Tourism Working Group - the network of European regions for research and innovation, which was taking part in the seminar. However, this potential can only be realised on condition that tourism receives additional financial support from the European Union, ERRIN adds. (IL/transl.fl)
