Brussels, 13/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - Women live longer than men but do not always age in good health as they do not enjoy a sufficiently comfortable quality of life allowing access to health care. The gender difference must therefore be fully recognised when it comes to health policy, at both European and national level, the European Parliament states in a resolution by Roberta Angelilli (EPP, Italy). Women are more affected than men by certain chronic illnesses and often this reality is not taken into proper consideration, the resolution underlines. While over one quarter of all women over the age of 60 suffer from neglect, priority must be given to protection, to combating ill treatment, negligence and exploitation of the elderly, MEPs say, calling on member state to adopt appropriate measures.
