29/11/2012 (Agence Europe) Alternative fuels strategy imminent. In the week of 17 December, the Commission is expected to present a legislative package on alternative fuels. This will consist of a communication on a European strategy for fuels such as: hydrogen, natural gas, biogas and liquid biofuels. The draft directive will focus on corresponding infrastructure and their standards, accompanied by an action plan for the development of liquefied natural gas in transport. On Thursday 29 November, during the “Fuel for Future Transport” Conference, Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas explained that they needed to put a stop to a vicious circle whereby there was no investment in infrastructure due to the lack of a transport fleet or because the latter was too expensive and producers could not lower their prices without increased demand.
