Cyprus and troika agree on aid package

Brussels, 23/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - The troika of lenders for Cyprus (the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the IMF) announced on Friday 23 November that they had had “productive discussions” with the Cypriot government on a financial aid programme requested by the island in June this year. The talks will now continue in the parties' respective headquarters. Euro Commissioner Olli Rehn said: “I consider this as an important step towards full agreement on an assistance programme for Cyprus which can be finalised once the interim results of the due-diligence exercise are known, and after agreement by the Eurogroup. The interim results of the due-diligence exercise are expected in a few weeks. (EL/transl.fl)
