70 media representatives to (re)think EU-Latin America relations

Brussels, 23/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - In cooperation with the Chilean press association, the EU-LAC Foundation is organising a congress in Santiago de Chile from Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 November, which will bring together 70 European and Latin American media representatives to work on the nature of relations between the European Union and Latin America on various subjects such as trade, new technologies, the environment, education and culture. A specific document will be sent to the heads of state and government of the two regional groupings that will meet on 26-27 January in Santiago de Chile.

The congress will be opened by the Chilean minister for foreign affairs, Alfredo Moreno, and the president of the EU-LAC Foundation, Benita Ferrero-Waldner - the former European commissioner for external relations. Back from his official visit to the European institutions to discuss the upcoming EU-Latin America summit, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera will also host the congress participants (see EUROPE 10731).

Created in May 2010 at the EU-Latin America summit in Madrid - and based in Hamburg - the EU-LAC Foundation's objective is to connect non-governmental sectors of the EU, Latin America and the Caribbean. (MB/transl.fl)
