Brussels, 21/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament has awarded the Lux Prize for European cinema to the film “Io sono Li” by Italian director Andrea Segre. The film highlights the problems of immigration. Rather than fighting illegal immigration, it is better to promote legal immigration, Segre said in his acceptance speech. The Lux Prize is vital for the distribution of European independent cinema and for raising the problems and tensions of our societies in Europe, he added.
The two other finalists for the 2012 Lux Prize were Csak a szél (The Match Factory) by Bence Fliegauf and Tabu by Miguel Gomes. The Parliament paid for the three films which reached the finals to be subtitled into all the official languages of the EU. The winning film will also enjoy funding for the original version to be adapted for the hard of hearing and the visually impaired and to promote copies of it. The Lux Prize is awarded by the Parliament every year to films which question the fundamental values of European identity and explore cultural diversity in Europe. (MB/transl.fl)
