Brussels, 16/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - France and Poland will work together to defend the same concept of a budget for Europe, based on solidarity, said French president Francois Hollande on Friday during an official visit to Warsaw.
At a joint press conference with the Polish president, Bronislaw Komorowski, Hollande said France wants a budget that would of course be kept under control by Europe over the next few years, but it must be high enough to finance big European policies, in particular the common agricultural policy (CAP)and the cohesion fund. Paris will defend this point of view at the upcoming European Summit in Brussels on 22 and 23 November on the 2014-2020 budget. Komorowski, welcomed these words, describing them as “highly significant.”
Veto by Romania? The Romanian prime minister, Victor Ponta, has protested very strongly at the cuts to the CAP and cohesion policy budget suggested by Herman Van Rompuy and says he is prepared to veto a compromise on the 2014-2020 budget. LC/transl.fl)
