Brussels, 08/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - Five associations representing the interests of the aviation industry are urging the highest European authorities to do something to address their concerns regarding the lack of “political ambition” in implementing the European Single Sky and the SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) aviation management programme. President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, Commissioners Kallas and Barnier (Transport and Internal Market) and Brian Simpson (S&D, UK), who chairs the transport and tourism committee, have received a letter along these lines stipulating that “the airspace user community sees both projects as necessary and indeed overdue to provide capacity for future growth, to achieve more cost-efficient operation and to bring about a substantial reduction in user charges. It is hard for us to accept that unreformed monopoly service providers are permitted to continue to earn huge profits at a time when the rest of the aviation industry is struggling”. The letter is signed by the Association of European Airlines (AEA), European Regions Airline Association (ERA), the International Air Carrier Association (IACA), the European Business Aviation Association (EBBA) and the European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA). National governments are expected to receive a similar letter. (MD/transl.jl)
