A woman elected at the head of Interpol

Brussels, 08/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday afternoon the members of Interpol - based in Lyon - elected Frenchwoman Mireille Ballestrazzi to preside over their institution. This will be the first time that a woman leads the institution. Interpol is an international organisation responsible for promoting police cooperation between its members - in other words, 190 countries. Its full name is the International Criminal Police Organisation (ICPO) and its European equivalent is the Europol agency, which is responsible for ensuring this police cooperation between the member states.
