Brussels, 31/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on Wednesday 31 October that the names of three agricultural and food products had been added to the list of protected denominations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). They are, from Germany, “Spalt Spalter”, dried hops and derived products (PDO), and mirror carp “Fränkischer Karpfen/Frankenkarpfen/Karpfen aus Franken” (Franconian carp, PGI), and, from Spain, potatoes from varieties grown on the Canary Islands “Papas Antiguas de Canarias” (PDO). These names have been added to the list of over 1,000 products already protected under legislation on the protection of geographical indications, designations of origin and traditional specialities.
