Brussels, 31/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - As part of the olive oil action plan, the European Commission intends at the end of December or beginning of January to submit for the scrutiny of the experts from the EU member states proposals seeking to toughen monitoring and sanctions in an effort to tackle fraud and other irregularities and to improve labelling (storage conditions, size of lettering, positioning of information). The proposals, which were discussed by the EU management committee for the second time on 23 October, have been largely well received by the producer member states (which include France, Italy, Spain and Greece) while the non-producer countries have expressed reservations, concerned, in particular, by the cost implications for their administrations of any increase in checks.
