Brussels, 26/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - In a resolution adopted in plenary on Thursday 25 October, MEPs called for all obstacles to the completion of a single market be removed. The non-binding resolution calls on the European Commission to unveil tangible action and achievable proposals to solve the twenty major issues identified by companies and ordinary people.
The MEPs say that people living in the EU do not yet fully benefit from a single market, as is seen in the problems with registering a car abroad, opening a bank account or having one's professional qualifications recognised. In a press release, the European Parliament says these problems are due to reluctance by the member states to take rapid action to implement EU rules, to cooperate with one another and to inform people of their rights.
The rapporteur, Regina Bastos (EPP, Portugal), says that in some areas of daily life, various things that are quite simply in reality are made complicated, difficult or onerous - like getting a refund of medical expenses paid out during a temporary stay in another member state, an Erasmus student opening a bank account, registering a vehicle in another member state or getting recognition of one's professional qualifications.
