Reality is always more finely-shaded than appearance. At the end of last week I wrote about the mood of the Arab Spring countries regarding relations between Muslims and the West (see EUROPE 10698) and I highlighted their positive aspect, noting that the southern shore of the Mediterranean is largely oriented towards an open and liberal conception of Islam. This orientation is for the most part confirmed. But the uncertainties and complications that remain or emerge should not be neglected....
