EADS/BAE Systems - Commission refuses to comment

Brussels, 14/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission does not have any comments to make at this stage about the plan to merge two mammoth European aeronautics and arms manufacturers, Franco-German consortium EADS and the UK's BAE Systems. A spokesperson for DG Competition at the European Commission told this newsletter on Friday 14 September that there was nothing to comment about as yet. The plan is to create the world's biggest airspace and defence company. It will have to be announced before 10 October 2012 under UK legislation and it will not be notified to the Commission and the US anti-trust authorities, as well as to all other countries where the two groups are established, until then. The Commission will decide whether or not to investigate the impact of the deal once it has been notified. (FG/transl.fl)
