Hahn to visit presidents of outermost regions

Brussels, 12/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - Travelling to the Azores (Portugal) for the 18th conference of the Presidents of the European Outermost Regions (OR), the commissioner responsible, Johannes Hahn, intends to assure his audience that “the European Commission is already actively working on implementing its recent proposals aiming to accelerate job creation and breathe new life into growth” in these regions. The institution's recent communication aiming to promote intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth in the OR will be the cornerstone of this conference, which will take place from 12 to 14 September. However, the presidents of the OR will not miss the opportunity to tell the Commissioner of their concerns at the reduction of their special allocation earmarked in the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), which will be trimmed by 50% in the current version of the reform of the cohesion policy for the programming period 2014-2020. The commissioner will extend his stay in the Archipelago of the Azores until 16 September, in order to visit projects co-financed by this fund (tourism training school, geothermal power stations, control tower).
