Brussels, 05/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 4 September, British Conservative MEP Vicky Ford welcomed the initiative adopted the previous day by the European Commission for the shared use of the radio spectrum by wireless technologies (see EUROPE 10680). This approach marks the beginning of greater competition in the digital sector and a decrease in prices for consumers, she said. “The EU has to make sure member states can respond flexibly and promptly to the ever-widening range of opportunities in this fast-changing technological field. We must have the right infrastructure and regulatory framework in place early to exploit those possibilities”, she went on. At a time when mobile and wireless data communication is set to explode over the next few years, thanks to smart phones and other applications, it is extremely urgent to release and allocate spectrum which can be shared by the different services, without risk of interference, the MEP explained.
