Brussels, 03/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Party of European Socialists (PES) is finally to organise its congress, aimed at preparing the major European targets and designating its future leaders, in Brussels rather than in Bucharest. This decision was confirmed on Friday 31 August in a press release from the party, at the request of Romanian centre-left Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who himself proposed the change, saying that the “situation in Romania could distract us from our main message”. Romania has just been through two months of political crisis that resulted on Monday 27 August in the reinstatement by parliament of President Basescu. This was after the failure of the referendum convened on 29 July by Ponta's coalition to remove Basescu from office. (SP/transl.jl)
