Brussels, 03/08/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton spoke on Thursday 2 August with chief Iranian negotiator Said Jalili about “how to move the talks with Iran on the nuclear issue forward”. Ashton stressed “the need for Iran now to address the issues we (the E3+3) have raised in order to build confidence”. “I proposed, and Dr Jalili agreed, that we talk again after further reflection at the end of the month”, she added.
Ashton and Jalili agreed at the meeting in Moscow in June to talk after technical level meetings and after their deputies had met on 24 July. Since the resumption of negotiations between Tehran and the E3+3 (France, Germany, United Kingdom China, Russia and United States) in April 2012, “I, supported by the representatives of (the E3+3), have explored diplomatic ways to resolve international concerns about Iran's nuclear programme”, Ashton said.
