Catherine Ashton calls for dialogue with Serbia to continue

Brussels, 26/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 25 July, speaking during her meeting with the prime minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton called for dialogue with Serbia to be continued. “They also discussed the need to continue dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade”, Ashton's spokesman said, explaining that, once the new Serb government is in place, “talks need to resume as swiftly as possible”. Ashton also spoke of the importance of fully implementing the agreements already signed by the two sides during dialogue. She hailed the renewal of the EULEX mandate, and said “this mission is an important part of the EU's commitment to Kosovo”.

Catherine Ashton and Hashim Thaçi discussed progress made by Kosovo and the state of progress in its European agenda. They described progress accomplished last year as “very substantial” and decided to “continue to work closely to further promote Kosovo's EU perspective”. (CG/transl.jl)
