Bilateral cooperation and Maghreb

Brussels, 19/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - The joint Morocco-EU parliamentary committee held its first session since the election of a new assembly in Morocco (end 2011), in Rabat on Monday. The European Parliament was represented by Antonio Panzeri (S&D, Italy), who chairs the delegation for cooperation with the Maghreb.

The committee session allowed progress to be made in exchange of views and strengthening links through parliamentary diplomacy, said Abderrahim Atmoun, Head of the Moroccan delegation. In addition to subjects relating to bilateral cooperation, discussions covered the prospects of relaunching integration of the Maghreb and preparation of the October summit (scheduled for 10 October, in Tunis), which is to bring together the five UAM (United Arab Maghreb) heads of state. The joint committee meets, in principle, twice a year. (FB/transl.jl)
