Brussels, 10/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - Yves Mersch, Governor of the Central Bank of Luxembourg, has been appointed by the finance ministers of the eurozone counties to succeed José-Manuel Gonzales Paramo on the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB).
The head of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker, said at the press conference after the Eurogroup meeting that the appointment owed much to his compatriot's many qualities, his “long experience” and his independence of mind. In Juncker's view, these qualities made Mersch the ideal person for the post. The Ecofin Council, which met on Tuesday 10 July, approved the decision. (EL/transl.rt)
