10/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - Karl Ake Roghe appointed head of EUPOL Afghanistan. Karl Ake Roghe from Sweden was appointed head of mission for the European police mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL Afghanistan) on Tuesday 10 July by the EU political and security committee (PSC/COPS). Roghe will take up the function on 1 August 2012 and his mandate will run until 31 May 2013. He replaces Geoffrey Cooper, who has temporarily filled the position of Jukka Savolainen since July 2010. The EUPOL Afghanistan mission “contributes to the establishment of sustainable and effective civilian policing under Afghan ownership and in accordance with international standards”, the Council points out.
