Brussels, 10/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - The head of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker (Luxembourg) has announced that his term of office has been extended. He was speaking at a press conference held a little after 2.00am in the night of Monday 9 to Tuesday 10 July, following the meeting of finance ministers of the Eurogroup (see related article). His term of office, which, under the terms of the treaties, is for two and a half years, should run until 2015. Juncker indicated, however, that he does not intend to remain at the helm of the Eurogroup until then. He said he planned to stand down before the end of his mandate “by the end of this year or the start of next”. For the moment, no agreement has been found among eurozone finance ministers on who will succeed him. (EL/transl.rt)
