Brussels, 25/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström opened the Migration Policy Centre (MPC) in Florence on 25 June. This centre will conduct research into migration and its effect on European policies, announced the European Commission on the same day in a press release. The MPC, partly funded by the EU, will focus, above all, on the economic benefits of immigration and the events of the “Arab Spring”. This launch will take place will be accompanied by a two-day conference that will be discussing the contribution made by immigration to European economies and growth. The MPC will be headed by Professor Philippe Fargues of the European University Institute (EUI). (SP/transl.fl)
