Marco Polo, €64.6 million for maritime, river and rail

Brussels, 25/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Marco Polo programme will receive € 64.4 million for a sixth call for proposals to shift freight transported by road to more environmentally-friendly modes of transport.

On 20 June, the Commission launched a call for proposals to share this €64.4 million envelope between projects that promote more sustainable freight transport that are, above all, aimed at reducing traffic congestion. This will therefore involve supporting clean short distance maritime, inland waterway and rail transport projects.

The call for proposals is open until 21 September 2012. Only the best projects will be selected for five-year contracts signed with the Commission. The list of projects selected will be unveiled in January, next year. Signing the contracts will take place in the second half of next year. (MD)
