EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) turkey

14/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Is France about to unblock negotiations on five accession chapters? New French European Affairs Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said on Thursday 14 June that it is still “too soon to say” whether France will free the way for negotiations to restart on the five chapters on Turkey's accession to the EU which the former French government unilaterally blocked. “The President of the Republic (François Hollande) met with the Turkish authorities in Chicago (at the end of May). There will be other meetings. … There are discussions with the Turks. We will see what the climate produced by these discussions … will bring in terms of further developments. It is too soon to say”. Caseneuve told EUROPE. He said that the discussions had resumed “as normal, with no attempt to exploit the Turkish issue for domestic political reasons, to politicise, to antagonise.” (CG/transl.rt)
