Brussels, 14/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 14 June, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström of Sweden set out the details of the roadmap with which Kosovo should comply in order, in time, to benefit from visa liberalisation. Already several of Kosovo's neighbours, such as Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania, benefit from the visa liberalisation regime. The commissioner greeted Kosovo's minister for European integration, Vlora Citaku, in Brussels to discuss the matter. The roadmap drafted by the Commission sets out a number of conditions to be met by Pristina and reforms to be implemented, especially in the fields of forgery-proofing of documents, border management, readmission of migrants, the fight against organised crime and corruption, and fundamental rights. The Kosovo government will move towards liberalisation as it progresses towards achieving these goals.
Commissioner Malmström was in Kosovo in January this year to launch dialogue on liberalisation and to begin preparing the roadmap, presented in Pristina on 14 June, with the authorities. (SP/transl.jl)
