ECONOMY - FINANCE - BUSINESS / (ae) competition

06/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: Mexichem Soluciones Integrales/Wavin. On 4 June, the European Commission cleared the planned acquisition of Wavin N.V., a manufacturer of pipe systems of the Netherlands, by Mexichem Soluciones Integrales Holding S.A. de C.V., of Mexico. The Commission's investigation of the deal, notified at the end of April, showed that the transaction would not raise competition concerns because the merged entity would continue to face sufficient competition. The Commission examined the competitive effects of the proposed acquisition with regard to the vertical relationship between the supply of PVC products and the supply of pipe systems, which especially use PVC as an input. The examination showed that the deal would not significantly alter the market structure and that after the transaction the merged entity would face competitive pressure from a number of credible competitors.
