06/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Filip Kaczmarek is new head of European Parliament delegation to Belarus. On Tuesday 5 June, Filip Kaczmarek (EPP, Poland) was unanimously elected the new chairman of the EP delegation for relations with Belarus, taking over from Jacek Protasiewicz. “Our task in the coming months will be to support the development of democratic civil society, including groups and independent media, where the situation continues to deteriorate”, said Kaczmarek. Noting that the EP has repeatedly urged the Belarusian authorities to unconditionally release all political prisoners, and called on the leaders of EU member states to redouble their efforts to dissuade President Lukashenko from using violence against the opposition and civil society, Kaczmarek stated that he will do his best to ensure that these calls do not go unheeded.
