Brussels, 31/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - Algeria and the EU have decided to resume their talks on finalising an action plan as part of neighbourhood policy. Two dates have been given for sending a team of European negotiators to Algiers - either June or, more likely, September, shortly after the month of Ramadan. Another reason for postponement is the need to allow a new Algerian government the time to settle into its role after the recent elections early May.
In declarations reported in the local media, Laura Baeza, the EU's ambassador in Algiers, said that talks may cover the question of the free movement of persons if the Algerian side wants this to be the case. If this subject is tackled, a “mobility” package may be presented. It is up to the Algerians to determine in which sectors they want to benefit from European technical assistance and cooperation, she said. (FB/transl.jl)
