Brussels, 31/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - Smokers are not allowed to smoke in aircraft, so why should they be allowed to smoke once they get inside airports? The EU is using this idea for its new anti-smoking campaign, launched on Thursday 31 May - World Anti-Smoking Day. Working with TAP, the Portuguese airline, information in the format of airline safety advice will be provided to airline passengers and other airlines will follow suit next month. Airports like Bucharest, Brussels and airports in Greece will be joining the campaign. The information sheet provides advice to help passengers go without cigarettes during the flight and in their daily life in general. EU Health Commissioner John Dalli explained that the time in the air could be spent thinking about the benefits of giving up smoking. This new initiative is part of a wider EU anti-smoking campaign, “Ex-smokers are unstoppable”, which kicked off a year ago and aims to raise awareness among 25 to 34-year-olds about the dangers of smoking (http://www.exsmokers.eu ).
