Brussels, 04/05/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 30 April, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) announced that it is going to carry out the very first global investigation into all forms of deregulation on the jobs market and attacks on workers' rights, especially in Europe.
The announcement follows publication of the 2012 International Labour Organisation report on labour around the world (see EUROPE 10607), revealing that 60% of the changes suggested by governments reduce worker rights, and 65% of labour market reforms reduce the rights of temporary workers.
ITUC General Secretary Sharan Burrow said ITUC was taking action to defend fundamental rights in countries where workers' rights are coming under attack from new angles. The first countries to be investigated are Bulgaria, Greece, Indonesia, Mexico, Portugal and Romania. (JK/transl.fl)
