Brussels, 30/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Bringing the average level of CO2 emissions from light utility vehicles newly registered in the EU to no more than 147 grams per kilometre by 2020, as EU legislation seeks, is perfectly possible and at lower cost than forecast in 2009, according to a new report published by the European Commission on Friday 27 April.
This final report on Regulation no 510/2011/EC (see EUROPE 10349) contains a similar analysis to the one carried out for the regulation on reducing CO2 emissions from private cars, adopted in 2009.
Article 13 of Regulation 510/2011/EC requires that the Commission conduct an impact assessment to check the feasibility of the target set for 2020 and that the Commission establish arrangements for achieving the objective at lower cost. The report will allow the Commission to revise the regulation to confirm the provisions and define the parameters for achieving the objective. The draft revision is due to be brought forward this summer. (AN/transl.rt)
