Brussels, 03/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has criticised the website of the Dutch far right party of Geert Wilders (PVV), which called on citizens on 8 February to denounce any problems caused by immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe living in the Netherlands.
In a resolution adopted on Thursday 29 March, the EESC “calls on the Dutch people and the Dutch government to take decisive action against this initiative, which can no longer be tolerated” because it discriminates against European citizens, goes against fundamental European values and spreads xenophobic ideas. The website has already been criticised on a number of occasions, particularly by the European Parliament in a resolution on 15 March. It has provoked many reactions both at EU and member state level - particularly because there has not been any response given by the Dutch government of Liberal Prime Minister Mark Rutte. The latter considers that as this website belongs to a political party that is not in the government coalition an official reaction is not necessary. (JK/transl.fl)
