Brussels, 21/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic announced on Wednesday 21 March, during his visit to Brussels, that his country would apply for candidate status for accession to the EU “in the next three months”. “We would like to make a credible application in June this year”, he said. “It will be solved at political level, then we will need a few months, maybe even half a year, for the parliamentary procedure. I hope the European leadership will wait for all this procedure to be finished, though the political decision should be enough”, he added. He said that Brussels was his first visit abroad, demonstrating that: “It is an important place for us. This is the most important process in Bosnia and Herzegovina”. “There is consensus, not only among politicians but also among the people on the importance of joining the EU. We live in Europe”, he went on, stating that the aim was that, within a decade or so, the country would be well on its way to accession. (CG/transl.rt)
