21/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - Warsaw in favour of merging the posts of President of the Commission and the European Council. Poland supports the idea of combining the posts of President of the European Commission and President of the European Council, the Polish foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, announced on Tuesday 20 March. He added that whoever occupies this new post should be chosen “democratically”, either by the Parliament or “more broadly”. According to Sikorski, this proposal would “reinforce (…) democracy in the EU”. He said that he had first put forward this idea in Berlin in November 2010. (CG/transl.fl)
