EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) palestine

06/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton expresses concern at Israeli incursion into Ramallah. The EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, said, on Saturday 3 March, that she was deeply concerned by the incursion made by Israeli security forces into Ramallah, in order to seize material belonging to the Palestinian television channels, Watan TV and Al Quds Educational TV, which receive EU support. Ashton invited Israel and the Palestinian Authority to use the joint Israeli-Palestinian technical committee created by the Oslo agreements in order to resolve, without delay, the questions concerning broadcasting from these television channels. Ashton's spokesperson also recalled that the incursion by Israeli forces into Palestinian towns where the Palestinian Authority holds authority and assumes responsibility for internal security and public order constitute violation of the Oslo agreements and endanger the efforts made to set Palestinian institutions in place.
