06/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - EEAS Deputy Secretary General meets Yulia Tymoshenko's daughter. On Friday 2 March, Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), met Eugenia, the daughter of the former prime minister of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko. Their discussions covered the conditions in which Tymoshenko is being detained, including different reports on her deteriorating state of health and her access to independent medical advice and treatment. The former prime minister's daughter reiterated the need for urgent and adequate medical treatment for her mother. Schmid spoke of the EU's disappointment with the conduct of the prosecution as well as the verdict and the appeals process in the case of Yulia Tymoshenko. The two women also discussed the prospects for EU-Ukraine relations, bearing in mind the former prime minister's strong support for the finalisation of the EU-Ukraine association agreement.
