Erasmus and TEN-Telecoms on agenda of CoR EDUC commission

Brussels, 24/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Representatives of the regions of Europe will be reviewing the European Commission's proposals relating to “Erasmus for All” and to the trans-European telecommunications network (TEN-Telecoms) during the meeting of the culture, education and research commission (EDUC) of the Committee of the Regions (CoR) on Monday 27 February. Discussions will cover two draft opinions awaiting adoption. The first, by Yoomi Renström (PES, Sweden) delights in the fact that European funding after 2014 for the development of knowledge and skills for the “Erasmus for All” has been increased, but expresses doubt regarding the current budget's excessive focus on mobility projects.

The second draft opinion concerns the Commission's proposals on the trans-European telecommunications network (TEN-Telecom), which will also benefit from the Connecting Europe Facility. The author of the draft opinion, Alin-Adrian Nica (ALDE, Romania), who also chairs the EDUC commission, stresses that towns and regions should receive investment in digital technology, especially in areas relating to healthcare, education, public order and social and security services.
