The Statistics concerning judicial activity in 2011, published by the Court of justice on Friday 17 February reveal new records in the number of actions brought before (1,569) and disposed of by (1,518) the three courts of the EU. Increased efficiency and significant internal reforms have not, however, completely absorbed the increase in caseload. Of the 688 new cases brought before the Court of Justice (631 in 2010), 638 were closed (574 in 2010). The average time taken on cases varied between 15.4 and 16.4 months (14.3 and 16.7 months in 2010, depending on the types of case. The General Court had 722 new cases (636 in 2010) brought before it and closed 712 (522 in 2010), with 1,308 cases still pending in the General Court. (FG/transl.rt)
