Brussels, 17/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Iraqi authorities are responsible for the security of Iranian nationals opposing the Iranian regime who live in Camp Ashraf, said Michael Mann, spokesman for EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, on Friday 17 February. He explains in a press release that the Iraqi government is urged to shoulder its responsibilities to ensure the safety and security of the camp's residents.
He went on to add that they also call on the people living in Camp Ashraf to cooperate fully with the Iraqi authorities and with the UN.
The 3,400 residents of Camp Ashraf - Iranian nationals hostile to the regime in Teheran - are soon to be transferred to another camp where the UN high commissioner for refugees will begin the procedure necessary for them to gain refugee status so that they may leave Iraq. (CG/transl.jl)
